Every year two parallel universes in Bollywood deliver mostly mixed results. While most of the big tickets-star driven films manage to make profits with the help of satellite, digital rights, music rights and some even add co-branding and subsidiary to appear in profits, their footfall in theaters remain below expectations in most cases. The smaller film meet even worse fate. Most of them don’t get a release. Those that do, struggle for enough screens. Whatever little screens they get hardly yield any footfall. They don’t get much from the sales of rights too. In such a scenario appears a rare film that makes profits from ticket sales and immediately becomes the toast of the town and declared a super-hit.
And then there is the rarest of rare genuine small super hit. A couple of years back it was Pyaar Ka Panchnama. This week it’s Fukrey returns. The film has done a business of 50cr in week one and has a strong trend in week two. Without a doubt its going to be the biggest ‘small film’ of 2017. not only it will get manifold profits from ticket sales itself but they will be further boosted by enhanced returns on all other rights.
Fukrey returns seem al set to do 75 cr plus lifetime collection which is much less than what looked like a possibility with the Saturday jump. At that time even 100 cr seemed managble but finally that was not to be. In any case the film is a super hit.
