Fukrey Returns collected a mindboggling 11 cr on the 2nd day. This is a 35-40% jump on an already unexpectedly high Friday collections of Rs 8 cr. Not only does this mean that the film is going to be a clean hit or superhit, it may also cross some big stars’ films too if Sunday further grows and Monday drop is minimal.
At the fag end of perhaps the worst year of Bollywood in 15 years, this is such a sigh of relief. What’s more, not only Hindi movies but even Hollywood films failed to match the collections of previous years. While in 2015 Fast & Furious 7 had almost touched 100 cr in India, this year’s installment of the franchise had no such luck. Similarly The Jungle Book last year had done 160 cr plus but this year no Hollywood film could come anywhere close to even 100 cr. Except for Bahubali this year, no film can be called whopping. A pleasant surprise did come in the form of Ajay Devgan’s Golmal Again crossing 200 cr and Varun Dhawan giving two films way above 100 cr but most of the year was about face saving small films like Hindi Medium and Shubh Mangal Saawdhan apart from Akshay Kumar’s safe 100 cr plus grossers.
All that needs to be seen now is how high Fukrey goes and how is it affected by Tiger Zinda Hai.
