‘Office #thebrightesthorrorfilm’ is at one level an attempt at the psychological horror genre unknown to Bollywood so far. However at another level it addresses ghosts other than just the spooky variety. Not that they haunt you any less insists Priyanka Chauhan who plays a complex character in the film, who is in love with the very guy who exploits her. Stockholm syndrome, anyone! .
“The ghost of sexual harassment at work haunts every girl in office. In the film ‘Office #thebrightesthorrorfilm’ even amidst the scary happenings, the male urge to use their power to control women and exploit them sexually keeps raising its ugly head. Interestingly the same men who are all machismo while abusing a girl, turn into the most cowardly wimps as soon as the ghost is mentioned, even before it stages an appearance” fumes Priyanka.
“Which woman has not faced sexual harassment at work? A boss in lieu of a job, a superior offering better appraisal and pay rise or even a peer offering to train a girl in something – all try to ask for sexual favours in return. At times it is subtle, at others, blatant. Sexual Harassment committees in most offices are just ineffective and in such a scenario women are left to their own devices to fend off unwanted advances. Most manage to outwit the creeps but some do fall victim to leering predators in office” offers Priyanka whose last film G kutta se was premiered in MAMI to a standing ovation and went to various international film festivals.
In ‘Office #thebrightesthorrorfilm’ it’s the ghost of sexual harassment that’s scarier than the ghost that haunts and kills. “Ghosts may haunt just some offices but sexual harassment is omnipresent” sighs Priyanka.
