The Christmas of 2018 will see a three way clash between Shah Rukh Khan’s film with Anand L Rai tentatively titled Dwarf, Sushant Singh Rajput’s Kedarnath and Ranveer Singh – Rohit Shetty combo’s Simmba. Of these, the clash between Kedarnath and Dwarf is likely to be direct on 21st December while Simmba will take on both films on 28th December in an indirect clash more on the lines of Chennai Express and Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara. Obviously all three want to cash in on the Christmas weekend which has become the biggest period of the year business wise.
But the question here is, what has happened to Shah Rukh Khan’s clout that not one but two of comparatively junior stars are clashing with him? It’s also notable that the two stars clashing with SRK may have created a perception of being big but they have had very limited success at the boxoffice so far. Ranveer has had just 2 hits (Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastaani) in 7 years of his career, both with Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and is yet to give a huge blockbuster totally in his name. Sushant has one solo hero superhit MSD but it’s success can be credited more to Cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni rather than Sushant. Apart form that Sushant doesn’t have any big grossers though he has been in the industry for 5 years.
This is not the first time some one is clashing with Sharukh this decade. Apart from the above mentioned indirect clash with Akshay, there was Kaabil VS Raees clash too with Hrithik Roshan. However both these clashes were with huge senior stars but next Christmas it’s fairly newbies taking on King Khan.
So that brings us to the all important question – Has Shah Rukh’s clout at the boxoffice ended?
