With Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya collecting 26.50 crore in two days, its clear that the film will get any verdict but flop. In fact a clean hit verdict for the film is a surety with a 3 day weekend close to 45 crore looking like a very real possibility and the four day weekend including Holi day leave likely to be any where between 55-60 cr. Which means the film will do upwards of 70 crore within the first week and will land up between being a hit or a superhit.
Varun must be the only actor in Bollywood history, perhaps in the history of world cinema, to never have a flop in almost half a decade, at the very beginning of his career. In 2013 Varun Dhawan’s launch vehicle Student Of The Year collected 65 crore and was a hit. in 2014 his next solo film Main Tera Hero too collected 45 crore and was a semi hit followed by superhit Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya at 75 crore. 2015 saw varun delivering a hit Badlapur at 50 crore, a superhit ABCD 2 at 105 crore and a semi hit Dilwale at 140 crore. in 2016 Varun’s only release Dhishoom was a semi hit. and now in the fifth year of his career his first film Badrinath ki Dulhaniya is a confirmed hit.
It’s also been noticed that Varun delivers better results when he comes solo. His last two films were semi hits but they had him sharing screen space with John Abraham and Shah Rukh Khan respectively. Perhaps his fans want to see Varun more on screen than other stars.
Varun has another release, Judwa 2, in September this year and if that helps maintain his record, it will become a tough act for any other rising star to follow.
